As a young girl I grew up speaking Spanish and going to an all English school.I remember myparents telling me that speaking two or more languages would benefit me later in the future when applying to jobs. Entering High school I knew I wanted Spanish as my pathway. I knew it would improve my Spanish and getting deeper into the years I would be able to take AP Spanish, which would give me College credit. When working in the Medical Field, Spanish will help me be placed in a better position.
Job Shadow
A Day at Lindsay Gardens
This morning, September 9, 2016, I stopped by at Lindsay Gardens to interview a close friend of my parents for my Job shadow. I job shadowed M. Celeste Lemus, a person whom my family and I have known for a very long time. The reason why I chose to do my job shadow at Lindsay Gardens was because my major is to have a position in the medical field when I graduate from college. Not only is it my career to work in the medical field, but I am also taking the CNA class, in which I will be learning everything I need to know before working with older people, then Second semester I will be working with them and helping them out two times a week or on a Saturday. As I got there Celeste introduced me to some nurses and patients, at large portion of the seniors were really nice and sweet, but a small amount of them were a bit grumpy. After meeting some patients, Celeste took me to her first room, which had three residents. She dressed her patients and got them ready for breakfast. Then went into her next 2 rooms, which also had three residents and then to her last room that only had two residents. Afterwards we went into the Cafeteria, so she could feed some of the patients there. Once she was done feeding them, I joined her to check how many showers needed to be done. While she was showering her patients, I left to get some food while she finished. When she was all done, she gave me a call to go back, as soon as I got there it was time for the residents lunch, she once again feed them and then laid them down for a nap. After a long day at Lindsay Gardens, I learned that nurses need a lot of patience when working with their patience. It isn’t something simple; seniors need a lot of help. With the help of their nurses they are able to eat, shower, and go out of their rooms. I learned that there is a different way of washing your hands before working with the patients and the proper way of doing their beds. The thing I liked the most was seeing the seniors so happy at the way they were being treated by their nurses. After doing my job shadow at Lindsay Gardens I am still 100 percent sure I want to continue my career in the medical field after finishing college. Although, my dream job is to work with babies, I wouldn’t mind working with seniors. I have always been interested in working with people and helping them out.
