As I walked pass the gate on August 15th I knew this was my first day of senior year, but also my last first day of school. While I see the freshman walking back and forth trying to find their classes I start to think to myself, “Man, it felt like just yesterday I was going crazy trying to find classrooms and now I’m a day closer to finishing high school.” At that moment it all hit me, I was finally a senior! So far my senior year has started off great! Although before going to school in the morning I was slightly anxious, after going to all my classes I felt so much better. I started off the year on pace, the year before I managed to catch up on all my classes and finish classes of freshman year. Since I am on university track, this year I will need to finish Algebra 2 semester b, start on Chemistry, and do my fourth year of Language. They say senior year is the easiest year of high school if you’re caught up in all your classes, but in my case it’s a whole different story. My first year in high school, I ended the year horribly. I didn’t care much about my grades and I didn’t get a lot done, so my sophomore year I was put in behind pace classes. For that particular reason I am taking junior year courses this year. I could have had exciting electives, but instead I am going to have a challenging year. Despite the challenges I’ll be facing, I know it’s going to be an outstanding year! The things I am most looking forward to this year are the rallies and football games. Football games are always so interesting and intense, especially playing against Strathmore. Every year the bell goes back and forth from Lindsay High school to Strathmore High school, but this year we’ll for sure win the bell and keep it. Not only am I looking forward to the activities and games, but also graduating with all my friends. My goal for this year that I plan to achieve is to become a better student. I want to improve my learning, writing, and speaking skills. I want to grow as a person to help myself out and help other people that need it. My goals for the future are to graduate, go to college, and have a career. After high school, I plan to go to Fresno State to study in the Medical Field. My major is to be a Registered Nurse and have Cosmetology as a side job. The reason why I would like to work as an R.N is because I love working with people and I want to help those who are in need. I want to have Cosmetology as a side job because I enjoy doing makeup on other people and I like to style people's hair.
Half Ways There
Class of 2017 is just a few months away from graduating. This year has started off just like how every senior imagined it, days going by like a flash. I have stayed on pace in 6 out of 7 and 7 out of 7 classes throughout the first semester. It has been challenging to stay on pace with all my classes when the days are going by tremendously fast. It is also a hustle trying to keep up when I have homework assigned every day for 3 through 4 classes. The classes I have recently been struggling the most on have been Chemistry and Algebra 2. Since the beginning of the school year, Chemistry has been a struggle for me due to the fact that it has science mixed with math. Algebra 2 was a piece of cake at the first 5 MT’s, but getting deeper into it, it’s become more challenging. Although, both subjects have been a struggle the past month, I continue to be on pace. Even though I’ve been having some trouble with Algebra 2, math has always and will always be my favorite subject. The past month has been a busy month for the majority of us. I haven’t had much time to work on my senior project, but since I plan on doing my exit interview in January I will have to make some time for it. So far I have worked on my “About Me”, my “Activities and Clubs”, and started my power point. I plan on finishing my senior project next week, Thanks Giving week, so I won’t have to worry about it the following week and I’ll be able to only focus on my classes. Gladly I finished my job shadow. It was an incredible experience! I enjoyed every minute of it. I learned so many things that will benefit me in the future when working in the Medical Field. Graduation is just around the corner and all I can think about are my plans for the future. I’m planning on applying to a clothing store in Porterville when I turn 18, so by the time I start college, I will be able to pay off a small amount of money for an apartment, of course with the help of my parents. My plans are to have a stable job and attend COS, and then transfer to a University. Thinking about High School coming to an end brings me an anxious yet exciting feeling. What excites me the most about almost being done with High School is knowing after years and years of school I am finally finished. It’s exciting to know that after High School, the journey has just begun. Throughout this school year I have been part of Key Club, My Voice, and Art Club. I haven’t done much in the clubs I am in due to always being busy with class assignments. For My Voice, we have some inspiring upcoming activities which I will be part of. As well, for Key Club, winter games are just around the corner. Key Club will help us, those who need community hours by being part of food booths.
The Ending of the First Chapter
As it gets closer to the end of the semester, new assignments begin to build up. I started to fall behind in a few classes due to missing too much of school, but managed to catch up before going into winter break. Other than that I’ve kept up with all my other classes and tried not to fall behind. A class I’ve been struggling a lot on has been chemistry. As we get deeper into the subject the harder it gets. It’s not something that’s difficult, it’s just too much to memorize. Not only a lot of memorizing, but it also has a lot to do with math, which is pretty confusing. The week before Winter break, as a class we took the EOT for MT3. Sadly, I didn’t study and failed the test. After Winter Break, I’ll be retaking version 2 for MT3 then I’ll be good for Semester A. Something that changed a couple weeks before went off to Winter Break was my CNA class. Something occurred to Mrs. Soto, the CNA instructor, so we were told there were going to be some changes and she wasn’t going to be back until late January if everything got better. For that reason we were given the choice whether to stay enrolled in the class but change it to night classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays or drop the class and get our credits for the semester, but get enrolled into a different class next semester. I made the decision of staying in CNA and having night classes. For now I’ll be having 7th period as a study hall class, but I plan to enroll in Leadership next semester. Another class I’ll have to change is Algebra 2. Since we fished the class before the semester was over we’ll have to be put in other classes. I’m planning on being Mrs. Lara’s TA, so I can ask for extra help and try getting ahead in Chemistry. I’m feeling excited for Winter Break, I have so many plans for the next three weeks! My plans for the first couple of days are to stay home and clean my house. I hope to spend my best friend’s birthday with her the whole day and take her out for breakfast. On the weekend my family and I are planning to go to Utah for Christmas and spend it with my mom’s sister and her family. While I’m over there we’re planning on going to the mountains where there’s more snow after that we plan on going to Chucky Cheese to celebrate my little cousin’s birthday. For the last week I plan on going ice skating in Fresno and to the trampoline arena. I also plan on making some time to do homework before I go back to school. I’m excited and looking forward to 2017! It’s the year that I get to take care of elderly and finally graduate. I have a great feeling that 2017 will be an amazing, fun, adventurous year.
Last Journal
A couple more days until I have my exit interview and as it gets closer to the date I get more and more anxious. Preparing my senior website and senior project was exciting. I enjoy talking about myself, my experiences, and the tough times at Lindsay High school. I may say, the thing hardest about working on my Senior Exit Interview is doing the journals. I never created my website throughout my high school years; therefore I was behind on my journals. Luckily, I created one at the beginning of my senior year and managed to catch up on things that I needed and now I’m a few days from doing my Exit Interview. Even though I’m a bit nervous, I am thrilled about doing early completion. After finishing my Exit Interview I won’t have to worry about it in the second semester, all I’ll have to worry about are my classes and upcoming important dates. My feelings towards ending the first semester are great. That means it’s a semester closer to graduation. It has been a tough semester trying to stay on pace with all seven classes. As we get closer to the end of the semester new assignments begin to build up, which makes it difficult to go back to past assignments that are incomplete. During the first semester I was going on a roller coaster, there were times where I was on pace with all my classes, but suddenly begin to fall behind in some assignments. Despite the bumpy ride, what I’ve learned from the first semester is not to slack off or else I’ll be having a hard time catching up by the end of the year. Starting my last semester as a high school student makes me feel like I have a million butterflies in my stomach. Once we start the second semester I know time pass by fast, with a blink of an eye. Before we know it, we’ll be sitting at the graduation ceremony waiting to hear our name to get our diploma.
